K A R A K A   O I L

Karaka ( Corynocarpus   laevigatus) was the sacred taonga of the  Moriori  and was the  main  component of carbohydrates in the  Moriori  diet and was selectively bred the plant for its berries and cultivated to serve as windbreaks

Leaves were used as a poultice on wounds, shiny surface of the leaves facing the wound; rougher lower surface draws out any pus

Yellow berries highly prized food source, although they are poisonous in their raw state and need to be properly prepared for consumption.
