C. H-K. Schmidt cello bow, Dresden, 1991-2
This excellent, late twentieth century cello bow was made by Christian Hans-Karl Schmidt, one of Germanyâs preeminent mid-late twentieth century bow makers. The stamp, verified by the current Schmidt workshops, is unusual in having the makerâs name separated from his geographical location, with âDresdenâ placed on the underside of the stick next to the button. This dual stamp was only used on Schmidtâs second-ranking bows made in 1991 and 1992. While still a wonderful playing bow, this example of Schmidtâs work can be priced at around half the figure usually commanded by such a fine maker.
