Tessellated Tablemat (Punto Antico)

A classic design inspired by the beautiful tile work seen in Italianate architecture. The tiles outlined by drawn threads, embellished and reinforced with Antique Hem Stitch, are decorated with  Satin stitch and Bullion knot motifs, and the whole item is completed with a traditional folded hem.

This design can be used for a tablemat or a cushion or scaled down to a sachet or up to a table runner or full tablecloth by adding or removing tile repeats, as necessary.

Punto Antico was traditionally worked in monochromatic tones, but the subtle shades of modern coloured linens work wonderfully with the lustre of the Pearl thread and the texture of the Bullion knot tile designs to give this project the classic elegance of yesteryear.
