Organic Hōjicha Powder - Uji

Introducing this delicious roasted green tea powder - Hōjicha (ほうじ茶) ! You may have also come across it's other spelling Houjicha without the 'ō'. Our Hōjicha primarily made from higher quality Sencha tea leaves (first harvest) rather Banchan leaves. Banchan leaves are considered lower grade tea leaves harvested in second or third harvest which makes it more astringent and sharp. Hōjicha isn't shade covered like matcha, and is steamed, dried and roasted before grinding.

TASTE PROFILE: This is a delicious tea with a nutty and toasty flavour leaving a mellow lingering taste. Similar to roasted rice tea. 

Hōjicha contains less caffeine than matcha at 1.7g per 100g (compared to 3.2g per 100g for matcha). 

HOW TO: You can drink this as a hot tea or consume as a latte. Scoop 1 tsp (1.5g) to 50ml hot water and stir to mix. Top with your choice of frothed milk or hot water. Works great as iced Hōjicha!
