This Black Dahlia is an inverted Tree of Life which symbolises spiritual growth. The bulb (or corm) encases the dark landscape of the inner consciousness where a boat waits. Folk ancestors act as guides for the journey, in spirit as moths. According to the Victorian Language of Flowers, Dahlias represent inner strength, change and dignity.
