Alfred Meakin ceramic jug vase, rare 1940s vintage

Made in England (1947), pre-loved

This rare ceramic Alfred Meakin jug featuring the famous 'hayride' pattern makes the most gorgeous vase. Even better, cut some flowers from the garden, put them in the vase, and give as gift when going to friends for dinner, visiting someone in hospital or taking around to elderly loved ones.

In 1947, Alfred Meakin created 'hayride' as a tribute to HRH Queen Elizabeth's love of rural countryside, prior to her wedding to Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark later that year. The carefree tribute reflected that post-war period where the countryside provided the British people with much needed respite and peace.

The jug has gold gild on the handle and rim and Alfred Meaken is stamped on the base.

Condition: Preloved, good. No chips or cracks, just some of the rim gild has rubbed off over time.

Dimensions: 14.5cm H x 17cm from handle to spout
