Inanga Ridge-Bound Hei Matau pendant
The pendant is 56mm in length and 30mm at its widest. It has the traditional ridge-knot binding at the top. This was one of the bindings used by the Maori to attach the pounamu to wooden and bone handles to use as tools and weapons.
The Hei Matau has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord which can be worn ALL the time - even in any kind of water. It is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The back of the Hei Matau/hook is scalloped/shaped so that it is comforting to rub with the thumb while it is being worn.
The pounamu for this Hei Matau/hook has been collected by Garth from the South Westland area on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand.
The Hei Matau / hook gives the wearer strength and determination.
It brings peace, prosperity and good health.
It also provide the wearer with a safe journey through life - both a safe physical journey, especially over water and also helps them get through any hardships and tough times they may face.
