Usually you will need only one master template for your store. There are occasions, however, when a completely different design is used for a page or section—that's where "skins" are useful.

Skins are templates that can be used instead of the master template. For example you may want to have a different design for the homepage.

Skins use the same method of header/footer HTML, CSS and Javascript. Simply create a new template and apply it as a skin for whatever page or section under /vendo/layout/

Skins can also be used to display different designs by OS such as for mobile and tablet devices.
